Department Overview: With an annual budget of $26.7 million, the Hillsboro Fire & Rescue employs 123 personnel of which, 116 are sworn. Our department prides itself on providing highly trained staff with state of the art equipment to serve residents, visitors, and businesses. With around the clock emergency fire, paramedic, and life safety outreach services, Hillsboros five fire stations are located throughout the 24.25 square mile area of the City of Hillsboro. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is committed to providing a high level of professionalism and excellence in every aspect of the services we provide.
Area Information: Hillsboro is one of Oregons most diverse and dynamic cities, with a steadily growing population of 101,540 residents. Hillsboro is the largest city in Washington County and is known as the high-tech hub of Oregon and the tallest tree in the Silicon Forest. With its thriving economy, Hillsboro is the home of Oregons fourth-largest school district, two higher-education campuses, and 28 parks with more than 1,500 acres of designated green spaces.
Job Requirements
US Citizen : Yes
High School Grad/GED : Yes
Valid OREGON State Driver's License : Yes
Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes
Necessary Certifications :
High school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented by college-level course work in fire science or related field; and
State of Oregon Emergency Medical Technician Basic level certification or higher; or a National Registry of EMT's Emergency Medical Technician-Basic card or higher and the ability to obtain Oregon reciprocity within 6 months of hire;
Obtain a Firefighter I or higher certification as accredited by N.F.P.A. or the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within six months of hire (included in probationary training).
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors : Processed by the City of Hillsboro
Firefighter Duties : Responds to emergency calls to provide fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and fire prevention duties as assigned to the public; other responsibilities include maintenance of fire stations, equipment, and apparatus; participates in drills and training activities and is actively involved in public relation events as scheduled.
